Marie Joy worked as a domestic helper for a Muslim family with four children: two sons aged 22 and 24 years old, and two daughters aged 12 and 19 years old. The family lived in a four-storey house with 6 bedrooms and 6 toilets. She was the only helper in the household.

Her main responsibility was assisting the 22-year-old son with his medical needs, including insulin injection, preparing his meals, organizing his clothes, and assisting with his medication.

She also performed general household duties such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and ironing.
